Andrea and Ryan’s engagement pictures in Firestone is a perfect example of why I always include engagement photography in my minimum wedding photography service.
First Meeting Before Wedding Day
We met in the Firestone Park in Akron. Specifically, the infamous Firestone “Hill” popular for sled riding in the winter. This was the site of their first date so it was a great place for their engagement pictures. The park in Akron was perfect, although it was super hot. We traversed towards the spot on Firestone Hill where they spent the majority of their first date. It was a day of full sun so we used that as our primary light source. I love doing this, as I’ve mentioned numerous times as it enable much more dramatic and well lit images. It does present the usual challenges and the heat didn’t help. But Ryan and Andrea were fantastic.
This was the first time that I met them face to face. They booked their wedding day over the phone so they took a leap of faith based on a trusted referral. This means so much to me. When someone refers me for a wedding, I have a responsibility to live up to that referral. I actually have a responsibility to exceed the expectations of the referral. Especially when they book me before meeting me. But I digress. The importance of an engagement session before the wedding day cannot be understated in a situation like this. Being able to trust that your wedding photographer is competent and will do a great job on your wedding day is absolutely important. It’s important for all of your wedding vendors, but especially so with your photographer. I will be with you almost every minute of your wedding day, since my minimum wedding coverage always includes being with you all day. A great way to prepare for their wedding photos.
Like everyone, Andrea and Ryan were a little nervous at first having their picture taken by a virtual stranger. This quickly changed, though. They are a friendly couple and were fantastic in front of the camera. Playful and relaxed. A great combination for pictures. Meeting them and taking some photos before their wedding day helped the wedding day itself. They are now a little more comfortable with me and can trust that I will do my absolute best for them. They also will know that they look awesome in their pictures.
